But there’s one crucial aspect that could make or break your audition, and it has nothing to do with how well you play—it’s about being coachable.

Let me tell you, I absolutely adore my iPad, and I’m sure you’ve noticed more and more musicians toting one around. Before I go on though, I want to convey something very important! If you are not in a position financially to buy one, please do not worry or feel left out. iPad’s are luxury items, and 99% of us in this world cannot have everything we want when we want it. You’ll be fine with paper music!

Hello future music majors! Choosing the right college can seem daunting with so many options out there. Let's simplify the process of creating your school list, but first, consider this: many students set their sights on well-known conservatories or universities. However, when I ask why they're drawn to these schools, often, they don’t have a clear answer. It’s important to look beyond the prestige and really understand what you appreciate about the program, the faculty, or even the city.

The question of whether to work during college is significant and requires careful consideration by each family, tailored to their unique circumstances.

Those are fun email addresses, but I bet you can see that they don't send a professional vibe. Other students actually have non-silly email addresses, BUT the address gives no indication as to their name. In short, your email address should do two things for you: be mature AND give an indication as to who you are. I don’t mean who you are in the creative sense. Save the creativity for passwords, your music and the stage!

Tuition and fees. A quick word about “fees”. If you have had no experience with paying fees at college, I assure you there will be some surprises in that category for the freshman year. Fees are different from tuition and can change every year, but right now, I want to bring to your attention to additional, and not so small, expenses that you will face.
